The Summer Reunion

The Summer Reunion

This is the main reunion organised by the Club each year. It is traditionally held at the school on the first weekend after the end of the Summer Term.

Subscribing members are automatically sent details of the reunion and booking forms; these are usually mailed with the Spring newsletter a little after Easter. Other old scholars or former staff of the school will be sent details on request.

Summer reunions are about meeting people who shared the St Christopher experience with you, and others who were there at a different time. They are about eating, drinking and socialising. Reunions extend over a weekend, from lunch on Saturday to tea on Sunday. There is usually a cricket match on the Saturday afternoon and other facilities such as tennis courts and the new indoor swimming pool are open. There is a selection of entertainment on the Saturday evening, including a St Christopher quiz, a rock or jazz band to dance to, listen to, or just have in the background. A particular feature of recent reunions has been late night candle-lit croquet, to go with the strawberries which miraculously seem to appear at around midnight. You don't have to join in; many people like to just sit and chat. On Sunday morning there is a chapel service, and Sunday lunch is a more formal affair with the Head's "State of the Nation" speech. Some people come for the whole weekend; others for part of it. Saturday evening conviviality tends to extend into the late hours, and we have a bar open until nearly midnight, so we advise you to consider booking to stay overnight either in the school or elsewhere in Letchworth. Most accommodation is in single rooms, but a few shared or family rooms are available if required. Please contact us with any requests.

Although there are plenty of activities, most people find that the most important thing to them is meeting old friends who they may not have seen for possibly decades, and looking around at the changes which have occurred in the school. Many friendships, and one or two marriages, have been made at summer reunions between people who did not necessarily know each other at school, but who shared the same sort of St Chris experience, and the same language of Morning Talk, Company Time, and so on.

So treat yourself to a relaxing summer weekend in Letchworth meeting old friends and making new ones. Or if you live close enough, just pop in for a short while and see whos around.

Getting up a party.

The Committee would like to encourage people to arrange to come to the reunion as a group. Each year we get a spread of people from different years, and one of the pleasures is to meet people who have shared the St Chris experience, but in a different way at a different time. Nevertheless most people are keen to meet up with people from their own yeargroup. We would like to help. If you know you are able to come to a particular reunion well in advance and are able to write a letter of encouragement to your peers that we can duplicate and mail out, it is possible to encourage a number of people from your year to turn up to meet you, and that way we get a good party from that year. We do need to organise this well in advance, however: please contact the Club well before Easter on the year in question.

Next Summer's Reunion.

Next summer's reunion is on Saturday 9 July and Sunday 10 July 2011.
If you want to receive details, please contact the Club.
